Why This Work Matters
Informed understanding begins with reading the full account.
Our understanding of a society, event or issue often begins with news reports, short videos, social media posts and other people’s commentary. These can introduce a subject. Access to the original work allows readers to examine the author’s complete reasoning, historical context and account of experience.
This is especially valuable when a subject attracts competing narratives and conflicting claims. Readers should have the opportunity to encounter the writing of relevant authors and people with direct experience.
Many important books are available in Arabic and other languages. Without Urdu translations, they remain difficult to access for readers in Pakistan who rely on Urdu.
Maqaleed seeks to narrow this gap. We want readers to move beyond secondhand impressions and fragmented commentary by reading complete works, examining context and considering the arguments for themselves.
We understand intellectual awareness as an ongoing process built through reading, research and a serious effort to understand.
